Minutes of Previous Meeting: Read and Agreed
 

Principals Report:
 
Ø  Enrolments September 2018:
 
14 Junior infants enrolled.
 
Ø  Inspectorate Visit (School Self Evaluation):
 
Principal informed staff of visit by Department Inspector Margaret Farren looking at the area of School Self Evaluation. Inspector looked through survey results and DEIS Plan. After discussion with principal it was agreed that the school would focus on ‘The Writing Process’ for the next academic year and beyond whilst also maintaining targets from DEIS plan and survey results.
 
Ø  Survey Actions & Recommendations (Inspectorate Approved):
 
Staff created a list of actions as a results of survey recommendations at beginning of year staff meeting. These were presented at Parents Association and now BOM. These were also presented and approved by Department Inspector.
 
Ø  Parents Association:
 
Principal discussed committee change. Principal outlined wish list such as Electronic School Bell, Updating school playground and creating water bottles with school crest on. BOM agreed to the items on the wish list.
 
Ø  Termly Events:
 
Principal informed BOM of events which are booked for pupils in school - Choir, GAA, Soccer, and Tin Whistle. Principal explained change in swimming policy in Derry and Strabane municipal district which states that they will no longer admit children under 8 in group swimming lessons. Therefore our senior classes are taking swimming lessons in Foyle Arena and we are researching venues around Donegal for our 1st – 3rd class.
 


Treasurers Report:
 
·         School Accounts Summary – forecast to December 31st 2018 presented to BOM
 
·         Minor Works Grant:
 
Minister Richard Bruton has tweeted in relation to approving Minor Works Grant which will be in school accounts in Dec /Jan. Until writing confirmation or after Budget 2019 Treasurer decided not to include this in our forecast / budgeting until money has been given to school.
 
·         Parents Association Accounts financial summary presented to BOM

 
Safety Officers Report:
 
·         Annual Health and Safety Checks
Safety officer conducted a health and safety checklist of the school yard after recent storm. His recommendations were
1. creating ‘Stays’ for goal posts and
2. Removing unused flag poles which have bent sideways
 
·         School painting over Summer / RCT compliant
 
School painting and payment is complete.
 
 
·         Policy & Planning Development & Revision:
 
ü  Child Protection Annual Policy Review – BOM discussed, ratified and completed check list. BOM identified some areas to develop e.g. discussing safeguarding statement with pupils.
 
ü  See BOM Checklist – Department of Education (School Self Evaluation) recently released a checklist of necessary plans and policies essential for schools. After reading checklist BOM decided to prioritise a ‘Critical Incidence Policy’ and ‘Substance Use Policy’ for 2018_19.
