BOM Report 3
Principals Report:
- Praise was given to Parents Association for huge fundraising efforts over Christmas and New Year
- Parents Association Wish list Update - after discussion with principal & ICT Grant money received focus has now been changed to 2 Interactive Whiteboards.
- Teaching Practice Students (Shauna & Amy): Principal praised students for excellent work
- School Activities: GAA, Rugby, Swimming, JEP, soccer, music, cookery. Activities are ongoing. Chairperson commented on excellent value per child.
- Adult Education (DETB) – Storysacks : Friday, Feb 3rd. Principal discussed poor attendance and no attendance on second day of course. Due to cancellations and poor attendance Storysack course was cancelled. Principal will send home survey to gage interest levels in future courses. School will aim to conduct a new course in conjunction with DETB in September 2017.
- Professional Development (DEC): March 22nd 3 – 5pm . Using ICT to assess Literacy and Numeracy for pupils with SEN. Principal informed board of course taking place on March 21st which has a large increase from teachers and principals in surrounding schools.
- Attendance Report (Túsla) / Attendance Policy: Principal informed board that the school is now completing quarterly returns. Due to this it has been noted early in year children who have reached 20 days absent. BOM agreed that an attendance policy was necessary. Attendance policy is to be completed by end of school year so parents are prepared for new school year.
- Inish Times – School Feature, Feb 2nd : Board praised the article in newspaper.
- Grandparents Day / Lá Glas: principal informed board that the school would be inviting grandparents into the school on March 15th.
On March 16th every child will dress in green for lá glas to celebrate seachtain na gaeilge.
- New chairs, carpets & boards PE hall funded by Christmas Craft Fair: Board praised current changes.
- ICT Grant : principal informed board of ICT Grant received by school amounting €3880. Principal discussed meeting with parents committee and explained that the PA will make up another €1500 approx so that we can buy 2 more Interactive Whiteboards by the end of the school year.
- Further fundraisers: principal informed BOM that the PA has organised a 5km run on March 18th to raise money for school. Another fundraiser has been suggested whereby school collects glass jars which are then sent home and filled with loose change. Jars are then collected and any money raised goes towards the school.
- SWS Engineer – John Joe Doherty: Principal spoke of meeting with engineer John Joe Doherty. Engineer visited school and completed final checks. Engineer presented final certificates for Asbestos and Guttering. Scheme is now complete.
Treasurers Report:
- Treasurer spends 1 hour every second Friday in office looking at expenditure, checking online system (Bunscoile Airgead) and signing cheques.
- Training provided by CPSMA – March 7th @7:30 An Grianan Hotel, All BOM invited. – treasurer informed BOM she will attend training.
Safety Officers Report:
Morning Congestion on yard:
- Survey results / Development Funding Initiative: Safety officer administered traffic survey to parents. He outlined results from surveys explaining that many suggestions in the survey where voted for as ‘very agreeable’. Chairperson awaiting results from DFI application.
3 Year Plan for Policy Review: Year 1 – Term 2: Overview presented and agreed by BOM.
- Enrolment Policy - BOM agreed to include garda vetting of parents to updated policy & enrolment form. Agreed to add enrolment form to school website.
- Health and Safety Policy - BOM agreed to current update.
3 Year School Plan Review: Year 1 – Term 2: DEIS Plan: divided into 5 categories with each teacher in school responsible for various areas.
